Accuracy and Precision

I’ve joined a local woodworkers club. Not a cult but a woodworkers club, I’ve been twice. They (we) meet monthly and have alot of tea and chat wood for afew hours; there’s a show and tell table, ‘making challenges’ or sales / sharing. It’s my first time ‘belonging to a club’ as I’ve been apprehensive about rocking up as a young lady into what could be considered an older man’s world. But, I’ve been welcomed warmly and truly enjoy the banter. It’s lovely to talk wood potential with likeminded people.

I have always said that my turning style has been ‘led by the wood’ and would still consider this my preferred way. But speaking with carpenters and chair makers at the club, I’ve been more ‘accuracy and precision’ minded and feel inclined to try and make the wood ‘bend to my will’ rather than ‘go with the flow’. As such, I’ve made afew lidded boxes this week and concentrated on getting a good fit ,  I’m interested in thread chasing ( screw on lids ) and have a good amount of boxwood which is the right density for the task.. but thread chasing means ‘accuracy and precision’ have to be paramount….

So that’s my challenge for 2024 - let’s  see how I go!
